Job Complete

This school year is coming to a close and for the teachers out there, this can be a very busy time of the year. I am about to waltz into my last week of school here in Kobuk, Alaska. The kids know that I am not coming back next year as I plan to take my adventures elsewhere. I plan to be teaching English overseas in the near future. I am getting ready to begin a TEFL class (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) on Monday. I am undecided on where I will be headed next. The course is 11 weeks online which will have to include 20-30 hours of practicum work as well. I'm really looking forward to new challenges and seeing new places in the world. Having said that, Alaska has been a wonderful change of pace for me. Many people my age get sucked into social media, video games, fast food, and excessive alcohol consumption (I've been guilty of these pleasures myself) but it has been really great to get away from those temptations for a while. In the villages, there is no internet, liquor stores, or fast food restaurants. So I have grown more accustomed to living a more simple life. Rather than binge watching a new television series on Netflix, I spent time talking to colleagues, playing with my dog, or taking long walks. While here, I have really fallen in love with the nature of Alaska. The snow is absolutely gorgeous as it burdens the trees and the mountains near Kobuk had moments that had me seated on the porch swing for hours. One night, I even got to see the aurora borealis make its way over the mountains which was absolutely stunning. I didn't even bother to grab a camera because I didn't want to miss any of the action. I am sure that I will miss Kobuk. I know I will miss my colleagues and a few of the students but it feels good to be heading back home to family and friends.

The greatest adventure is the one that lies ahead.
