The Largest Waterfall in Hungary (Lillafured)

After some research on popular destinations in Hungary we decided to go to a place called Lillafured. There was a "castle" located there and it looked like a place out of a fairytale. So, during the Fall break we decided to get out there and see it!
Of course, we had to make some stops along the way to experience more of Hungary! Our first stop was in wine country in a little town called Eger. Unfortunately, we arrived in Eger around 10:00 in the morning so most of the wine shops were closed. However, we did manage to find one place that was open and sampled some local wines.

From there we ventured on to Miskolc for the night. It was a pretty long walk into town and frankly a bit spooky and run down. To be completely honest, this town did not have much going on. The main street downtown was kind of cool. We really struggled to find our airbnb but after a few phone calls we eventually found the place. At this time of year it was getting dark fairly early so we did not do much.
The next morning we were off to Lillafured! We were excited to go see this beautiful castle and see the largest waterfall in Hungary. We had some difficulty getting on the right bus and eventually just decided to hoof it up to Lillafured. It was a pretty long walk and it was along a highway. It was still good to stretch our legs and take in the beautiful fall colors.

When we got to Lillafured we were pumped. We could see the castle from a good distance away and it looked super cool. Upon arrival, we also noticed a very large and pretty lake. As it turns out, the "castle" was just a hotel. The garden area was mostly dead due to the time of year and the waterfall was manmade. It was obviously made of concrete. After a few minutes, we realized that there really isn't anything to do here. It was very pretty but everything there was for hotel guests (and even then, it wasn't much). So we decided to make our way to the lake where we saw a man with several boats.

The price to rent the boat for an hour was very cheap. I can't remember the exact price but I know it was less than five dollars. So we hopped on a boat and rowed around on the lake for a while.

Overall, I do not recommend Lillafured. The photos that we took were great but the place itself had nothing going on. The waterfall was obviously manmade which really takes away from the experience as well.
